American Bank is looking for a Mortgage Loan Underwriting Officer to review, underwrite and approve all appraisals according to FHA, VA, and FNMA appraisal standards, and must be able to communicate all mortgage loans guidelines to Mortgage Loan Officer, Management, and Loan Processors.
This position requires a thorough knowledge of industry standards, products, programs, compliance and underwriting guidelines.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Underwrite Government loans according to the FHA and VA underwriting standards.
Underwrite Conventional loans according to FNMA and FHLMC underwriting standards.
Underwrite Jumbo loans according to investor guidelines.
Underwrite Portfolio loans according to the bank’s guidelines.
Lending Authority: FHA - $498,257, VA - $766,550, Conventional - $766,550 (DU approved status), and Jumbo loans $2.
0 million.
Underwrite and approve all VA Appraisals (Lapp approval) and Conventional appraisals to FNMA guidelines.
FHA Direct Endorsement Underwriter.
VA - SAR Designation.
Responsible for analyzing tax returns – personal, partnerships, and corporations.
Pre-qualify all Conventional and Government loans as they relate to the FNMA and Government standards.
Review all Mortgage Loan files for compliance (TRID, ECOA, Reg B, Flood Insurance FEMA, HMDA etc.
) Review the buy/price calculations.
Review and submit HMDA data to the Compliance Officer.
Act as a Mortgage Resource Center for the department and respond to questions in a timely manner.
Review all locked loans for expiration dates.
Prepare adverse action letter according to compliance standards.
Communicate to the Mortgage Lending staff all updated underwriting guidelines Back up Mortgage Loan Processor and Mortgage Loan Closer as needed.
Other responsibilities, projects and job duties as assigned.
Non-Essential Duties & Responsibilities Ability to be mobile to access the photocopies, files, fax machine, etc.
Ability to operate a telephone Exhibit a supportive attitude when providing loan department services to external affiliates.
Communicate effectively with external bank clientele (i.
e.
appraisers, title companies, surveyors, Realtors, and other financial institution) to ensure timely responses.
Required Experience and Qualifications 2 + years of experience underwriting Jumbo, Conventional and Government mortgage loans.
2 + years of experience with FHA and VA certifications required.
2 + years of experience reviewing appraisals as they conform to FNMA, VA, and FHA standards.
2 + of experience of spreading tax returns (i.
e.
1040’s, 1065’s, 1120’s, K-1’s) and financial statements.
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft products Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Education High school graduate or equivalent.
College Graduate (classes in Real Estate or Finance preferred).
Hours for position are Monday through Friday, 7 am to 4 pm or 8 am to 5 pm, with varying hours as needed.
