This position manages all kitchen functions for our on-site residential program, and manages food services to children, adhering to the standards established by Helping Hand Home, the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), and the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Hires, schedules, and supervises all kitchen staff to ensure quality food services to children and staffers of Helping Hand Home.
* Plans varied and nutritious meals to ensure children receive sufficient nutrients needed for proper growth and development, according to NSLP guidelines.
* Prepares and serves attractive and nutritious meals and snacks, according to NSLP guidelines and in accordance with policies of the Home; serves freshly baked goods regularly; ensures there is a balance between processed and fresh foods; introduces the children to unfamiliar foods; serves traditional holiday meals and ethnic foods representing the cultural backgrounds of the children in the Home.
* Shelves food and kitchen supplies in an organized fashion; ensures adequate food supplies are available in the event of an emergency; disposes of food according to health department standards.
* Maintains the highest standards of sanitation in the kitchen, pantry and dining areas; ensures any staff or children who assist in the preparation of meals maintain the same high standards of sanitation.
* Purchases food, kitchen supplies, paper goods, cleaning supplies, towels and linens.
* Processes monthly and yearly paperwork for the NSLP and commodity food programs.
* Conducts monthly inventory of food supplies.
This includes completing the yearly Texas Department of Agriculture contract, filling out the survey to receive commodities, securing bids from the Texas 20 Coop for milk, bread, paper and produce companies.
* Posts weekly and monthly menu plans for staff and children.
* Maintains all kitchen equipment in good working condition.
The Food Service Manager is responsible for submission of work orders related to all kitchen equipment and work areas.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or related area preferred or equivalent food service experience in accordance with current Texas Department of Agriculture, Texas Education Agency and DFPS guidelines.
* Current food service manager’s certification.
* Prior experience with the National School Lunch Program is preferred.
* First Aid and CPR or become certified within 90 days of hire.
* Must be at least 21 years of age.
* Must hold a current Texas driver's license with a clean driving record.
* Current TB test or chest x-ray.
SALARY: $50,000 minimum, depending on experience.
