Under the direction of the Park Superintendent, this position is responsible for the operation of Bastrop State Park aquatic facility.
Manages and supervises aquatic staff and retail operations.
Ensures the safety and well-being of visitors and staff by protecting life and preventing accidents.
Enforces policies, rules, and regulations.
Responsibilities include oversight of: aquatic operations, grounds maintenance, revenue collection, concession operations, staff training and development, oversees alternative workforce to include volunteers, and customer service.
Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from High School or GED.
Experience: Two years of experience in (1) general maintenance; (2) revenue collection; OR (3) public relations.
NOTE: Experience may have occurred concurrently.
Licensure: Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid class "C" Texas driver's license; Must possess or be able to obtain a TPWD approved (Red Cross or equivalent) Lifeguard certification with CPR/First Aid.
NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon maintaining required licenses and certifications.
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS: Experience: Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: Experience in aquatic facility management; Experience as a supervisor or team leader; Experience in working with the public.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of water hazards and rescue techniques; Knowledge of basic facility cleaning and sanitation techniques; Knowledge of swimming pool operations; Knowledge of concession stand operations and fee collection; Knowledge of personnel and volunteer management techniques; Knowledge of personal computers; Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook; Skill in effective verbal and written communication; Skill in application of lifeguard surveillance and lifesaving procedures; Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner; Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers, work-related contacts, and subordinates; Skills in customer service and retail sales; Skills in facilities and grounds maintenance; Ability to swim; Ability to react calmly and effectively to emergency situation; Ability to perform first aid procedures; Ability to maintain cleanliness and orderliness of all areas; Ability to accurately handle cash and account for revenue collected; Ability to work independently with little or no supervision; Ability to supervise the work of others; Ability to recruit, interview, hire, and train staff; Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.
