The firm is seeking an ambitious Controller to join the growing Austin, Texas team.
The Controller will manage all aspects of financial and tax reporting, accounting, and banking for corporate entities, multi-family apartment complexes, and other commercial properties.
A team of property accountants and accounts payable staff report to the accounting manager, who reports to the Controller.
The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
Essential Job Functions
* Timely preparation and review of all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for ownership, regulatory agencies & lenders
* Oversee accounting for multiple corporate entities including allocated/shared services, payroll processing and management fees
* Create and review CAM, tax and insurance billings on NNN commercial properties
* Supervise and train property accountants for their daily, weekly & monthly duties including bank reconciliations, accrual journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, reporting package creation, positive pay process, cash disbursements, lease review, etc.
* Coordinate with external 3rd party auditors to drive timely financial statement audit completion
* Update self-escrow analyses as needed
* Review available cash analyses before weekly check runs
* Communicate with ownership groups for ad hoc reporting questions & requests
* Communicate with 3rd party payment processing vendors and troubleshoot exception items
* Communicate with successor ownership groups & management companies to facilitate smooth handoffs for asset dispositions.
* Obtain financial & operational data, review the data, map general ledger accounts, and general system setup from outgoing management companies as part of new asset onboarding.
* Ensure proper controls are in place for the financial reporting process
* Create and review shared billing for services across multiple entities
* Develop and implement programs or procedures to enhance cash flow, generate cost savings, increase profitability, and strengthen internal controls
* Participate in discussions with senior management on long term strategic planning and business development
* Develop strong working relationships with 3rd party ownership groups, vendors, banks & auditors
* Complete ad hoc reporting requests and projects from senior management
Required Skills
* Must have proven accounting management experience with primary focus on real estate or property management
* Excellent knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP)
* Proficient technology use, including MS Office and Yardi
* Strong leadership and organizational skills, ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
* Excellent communication and people skills, ability to successfully manage all levels of the organization, including staff at remote locations
* High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-driven attitude
Education and/or Experience Qualifications
* BS in Accounting or Finance; CPA highly desirable
* Public accounting experience preferred
* 5+ years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles, preferably in property management, construction and/or real estate development
Preference given to those with YARDI property management software experience
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $110,000.
